I love bread of all sorts but it carries a lot of calories and sometimes makes me feel a bit bloated and even more sluggish than normal. If I’m at home I often opt for making an open sandwich which instantly removes have of the quantity of bread. I also use rye breads which are more solid, filling and tasty. They are easily available and a pack (normally 10 slices) have long use by dates.

Tips / IdeasÂ
- Replace butter or mayo with horseradish sauce, mustard or piccalilli.
- Drizzle some balsamic vinegar or glaze over the sandwich for flavour and moisture.
- Use thin cut pastrami or other dried / lean meat to top the bread. A small amount goes a long way.
- If you need to transport or wrap the sandwich to take it to work replace the single slice with a wholemeal “thin” which normally has less than 100 calories.
